FAQs

What is your cancellation policy?

If you are unable to attend a session, please make sure you cancel at least 24 hours beforehand. Otherwise, you may be charged for the full rate of the session.

Do you offer a sliding scale for cash pay therapy?

A sliding scale based on household income may be offered on occasion. I reserve several spots in my schedule to offer sliding scale fees, and when possible, I will work with you to make therapy financially accessible and sustainable.

Can I use insurance to pay for my session?

You cannot use insurance to pay for a session. I am a private pay provider and do not bill insurance directly for treatment. Some benefits of paying privately include enhanced privacy and greater flexibility in our work together. I can provide detailed receipts (Superbills) for you to submit to your insurance, and many clients are able to receive reimbursement or have it applied toward their deductible.

How do I know if Existential Therapy is the right choice for me?

Visit the 'Meet Me' section of this site and explore My Therapeutic Approach to determine if it feels like the right fit for you. Feel free to schedule an Initial Consultation to learn more.

How long will each session last and how many will I need?

An optional Initial Consultation lasts 20 minutes, while each following session is 50 minutes long. The number of therapy sessions you need can vary depending on your personal goals. Some people may find that a few sessions are enough to gain clarity or work through a specific concern, while others may benefit from ongoing therapy over several months or years.

What does the Initial Consultation consist of?

An initial consultation with a therapist is typically an introductory session where both you and the therapist get to know each other. You can expect an introduction and overview, a discussion of your concerns, gathering brief background information, clarifying goals, explaining logistics, and determining a mutual fit. By the end of the session, you'll likely have a better sense of whether my style and approach aligns with what you're looking for, and you can decide whether to move forward with therapy.

What does the first session look like?

The first session is an opportunity for us to begin building a strong therapeutic foundation. Each first session is unique, shaped by your individual needs, concerns, and goals. You are welcome to share whatever feels most important to you—whether that’s what brought you to therapy, current challenges, or specific areas you’d like to explore.

I may ask about your personal history and life experiences that could be relevant to our work together, but we’ll move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. This is also a time for you to ask any questions about the therapeutic process, my approach, or what to expect moving forward.

An important part of our first session is determining if we are a good fit for each other, if we did not have an initial consultation. Can you envision us working together? We’ll explore what brought you to therapy, which will help us outline the areas we can work on moving forward.

Do you prescribe medication?

I do not prescribe medication. While a few states offer exceptions, psychologists (Psy.D. or Ph.D.) generally do not prescribe medication. Prescribing is typically reserved for medical professionals such as psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, or physician assistants. Psychologists are extensively trained in psychotherapy, psychological assessment, and understanding mental health through a behavioral and relational lens.

Can we meet in person?

Currently, my practice only offers telehealth sessions. If I begin offering in-person sessions, I will update this website accordingly.

Do I have to live in California to work with you?

Yes. A psychologist cannot practice or provide therapy in a state where they are not licensed. Each state has its own licensing requirements, and psychologists are required to be licensed in the state where they are practicing. I am currently licensed in the State of California.

What do I do if I'm having a crisis right now?

If you are having an emergency and require immediate assistance, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.
